Digital Imaging Course

Digital Imaging Course

Take the Next Step Forward with Digital Imaging Courses from Steve Hedges in Essex

Now you have the skills and knowledge to use your digital SLR, our Digital Imaging course is the next step when it comes to photographic imaging and the post production part of photography. This course has been written with Photoshop Elements in mind. This is because Elements is very reasonably priced, whilst offering all the controls and functions a photographer will need plus the skills and knowledge to create perfect pictures. If you decide to upgrade to the full Photoshop program later on, the skills learnt on this course are transferrable. If you use a different software package, this will still be useful. However, some of the software commands may vary.

The course runs for five weeks. The subjects covered range from colour, contrast and exposure adjustments to more complex subjects such as multi-layer montage.

Digital Imaging course week one: will be consisting of importing and saving files, what file formats to use, how to resize, resample and crop. How to use the clone tool to remove blemishes. Use of levels, colour curves and brightness and contrast command for correct exposure and tonal range.

Digital Imaging course week two: will be consisting of converting raw files, using selection tools including lasso, marquee tool, magic wand and the selection brush tool. Feathering selections, moving selections, adding or subtracting from selections. Why selections are so useful and when to use them.

Digital Imaging course week three: will be consisting of converting colour files to black and white, colour toning (for example sepia or blue tone), adjusting colour using the hue and saturation command and variations command. Dodge and burn tools.

Digital imaging course week four: will be consisting of use of adjustment layers, use of layers, blending layers, using multiple layers to control contrast and exposure. Linking, merging and flattening layers. Adjusting layer opacity and using the eraser tool.

Digital Imaging course week five: will be consisting of sharpening an image, history command, using the navigator, using filter – for example artistic filters, adding noise or blur, making a contact sheet, preparing an image for printing, email or the web.

Digital imaging tuition is a practical subject. Hands-on experience is essential. At the start of the course, you will be supplied with a disc containing all of the pictures used in the lessons along with comprehensive notes giving you step by step instructions showing you how to master each technique. You can practice what was covered in each lesson for yourself in your own time. Whether the image needs just a small tweak to make it perfect or you wish to create a piece of digital art, this program of lessons will help you achieve your aims.

There will be time at the end of each lesson for Digital Imaging students to discuss the previous week’s subject matter. Any problems you may have encountered can then be ironed out.
