Norfolk Photography Course 2

Norfolk Photography Course 2

This three-day practical photography course features many of Norfolk’s iconic locations. The Norfolk broads is a photographer’s dream with wind pumps, tranquil waters and ruined abbeys, along with Norfolk’s big skies all waiting for the photographer’s lens. The coast of north east Norfolk offers the photographer a real contrast of locations, from the windswept beaches to an eye-catching lighthouse plus the atmospheric coastal defences. Many artistic challenges await. Last but not least is the iconic north Norfolk coast which has it all from seemingly never-ending beaches, windmills, atmospheric creeks, salt marshes to slowly decaying boats and sea defences. There are the beach huts set among pine forests and sand dunes and let’s not forget Hunstanton with its amazing twin-coloured cliff face. My three-day Norfolk photography courses includes a sunrise shoot at Cromer’s photogenic pier. Please see dates and prices for this photography course on the right of this web page.

MEETING POINT CROMER EACH MORNING : We then travel to a number of locations around north Norfolk over the three day’s of the course.

My location workshops have a maximum of five students which means there is plenty of time for individual tuition. Because I work with small groups this course is suitable for all levels of photographer from beginner to advanced level.

Once the course is completed I will send all students a full set of notes relevant to all the subjects covered during the course. I think the notes are important because it’s really hard to retain all the information we are given. The notes act as a good memory jog which helps each student get the best from their tuition.

My workshops are run in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere because I think we all learn more when we’re enjoying ourselves. They have a flexible format allowing us to react to changing lighting conditions as well as giving me plenty of time to answer any questions you might have. Each shoot is designed to boost your confidence so you have a much greater success rate when it comes to taking images with mood and impact.

Although this digital photography workshop is landscape-based all the skills you will learn are readily transferable to other subjects such as wildlife, sport, architectural and people photography. Each photo shoot will enable you to explore your digital camera and master skills that are useful for a wide range of subjects.

Over the three days of this photography course many subjects are included from the technical to the artistic aspects of image making. You will learn about creative use of shutter speed, creative use of depth of field, camera controls and menus, exposure histogram, exposure modes including manual exposure and spot metering, creating a digital panoramic and the use of photographic filters including the big stopper, to the more artistic areas of photography such as developing the photographer’s eye, good composition and the use of light and colour.

Each day begins with all course attendees meeting at a pre-arranged point in Cromer.  Transport between the different photographic locations is not included but Steve is happy to car-share if you wish.  He will be driving a seven-seater people carrier.  However, if you prefer to use your own car throughout the course, the photographic locations are close to each other and this does not involve driving long distances.

Along with shooting landscapes, seascape, close-up and architecture there is also a good chance of photographing one of our largest sea mammals, the seal. They are present all year round on some Norfolk beaches. The great thing is you don’t need a long lens to get frame filling shots of the seals. I shot the seal images on this page with a fairly standard 70-200 mm lens. I can’t guarantee the seals will be there as wildlife can be very unpredictable but as I say there is a very good chance.

Although there are no long hikes or high mountains to climb a reasonable level of fitness is required for this course.

Accommodation (if needed) for this course is not included.

If you need to book accommodation, anywhere in Cromer or the surrounding area will be fine. We will meet in Cromer at the start of each day.
