Photography Course in the Austrian Alps

Photography Course in the Austrian Alps

Photography Course in the Austrian Alps

The Austrian Alps are a magical place to take photographs, there is just so much variety from majestic mountains, huge waterfalls, raging rivers to calm mountain lakes and atmospheric Alpine villages. On this photography course we will visit the area’s iconic locations, as well as some of the less visited hidden gems. We will be accompanied by a guide (who speaks fluent German) who has an extensive knowledge of the area. This makes getting to those less visited spots a relaxed and stress-free experience.

The accommodation for this trip is an Alpine chalet a few minutes’ walk from a small village. In fact there’s a fantastic view from the balcony of the chalet itself. The image on the left below was taken from the balcony. All rooms will be on a single occupancy basis and there is no single occupancy supplement.

During the course, alongside visiting many truly beautiful awe-inspiring locations we will cover both the technical and creative aspects of photography. From creative use of depth of field, creative use of shutter speeds, exposure histogram, exposure compensation, manual exposure  metering, how to use the spot meter function correctly, focus modes, white balance creating a large depth of field, the use of filters, plus the artistic side of photography such as composition and the use of light and colour, these will also be extensively covered.

We meet in the atmospheric city of Salzburg. I will let everyone know in advance which hotel I will be staying at. You do not need to stay at the same hotel in Salzburg. Regardless of where everyone decides to stay, on the day we all arrive, we meet for a night shoot of Salzburg. We will be shooting from a spot overlooking the city with Salzburg castle: a beautifully lit feature of the composition.  After a good night’s sleep our guide Adam will pick us up from outside my hotel and drive us to our base in the Alps for the rest of the course.

We will then spend the next  five days taking fantastic photographs at various locations in the Austrian alps. The itinerary is fairly flexible because we will need to match the lighting and weather conditions to  each location. We will  photograph the famous village of Halstatt , the Dachstein glacier, the 250 metre Golling waterfall plus many mountain lakes and various mountain views and more local waterfalls and gorges.

All my courses are run with a relaxed and fun atmosphere in mind. They are suitable for beginners, right up to more advanced levels of photographer. All levels are welcome.  I think we all learn more when we’re having a good time. And this course along with learning to take great photographs is also about having a great time in a beautiful location.

For this course, you will need a reasonable to good level of fitness.  This is not a hiking course, it is a photography course but there will be times where a forty-five minute walk or so on elevated paths will be required.  If in doubt, please consult your Doctor.
